Ernst O. Wilhelm

Since more than 35 years I am devoted  to matters of software development and IT management and more than 20 years to matters of data protection and information security. I started my career with a diploma in computer science from Technical University Berlin.  Today, I am Chief Privacy Officer for GFT Technologies SE and responsible for the worldwide data protection program of the GFT group. My special interest is focused on a stronger interlocking of legal and technical considerations in the practical application of data protection and security as well as the adoption of a value driven approach in the development and application of Artificial Intelligence.  I am Past Chairman and current member of the Executive Board of the German Chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (GChACM). I am a longstanding member of the Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI) and member of the jury of the Klaus Tschira Award. Moreover, I am associated with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Recht und Informatik (DGRI), Berufsverband der Datenschutzbeauftragten Deutschlands (BvD) and longstanding member of the Gesellschaft für Datenschutz und Datensicherheit (GDD) of which I hold a certification in privacy management. Furthermore, Mr. Wilhelm is honorary member of the Italian Association of Data Protection Officers (ASSO DPO) and member of the Scientific Committee of the ASSO DPO. I am also a member of the Working Group on Artificial Intelligence of the Confederation of European Data Protection Organizations (CEDPO). I am member and Fellow of Information Privacy (FIP) of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and holder of the CIPP/E, CIPM and CIPT credentials of the IAPP. Finally, I am  winner of the IAPP Vanguard Award 2023 and PICCASO Award 2024.
